Trailer Questions

The purpose of trailers is to encourage people to go and see the film. Look at the trailer for Bamako and consider the ways in which it is trying to encourage you to watch the film.

Use of Awards and nominations are often used in campaigns, trailers, posters, TV adverts, etc. How important do you think this is? Does it have an impact on you?

The trailer informs us that the film is subtitled for an English speaking audience. How important is this to you? Does this change how you think about the film?

What questions does the trailer raise for you? For example, do you want to find out who the woman singing is? What happens in the court? How useful are the English questions in the trailer (e.g. 'Why can't Africa reap…')?

How would you describe the tone of the trailer? Which elements are most significant in contributing to this mood? Think about sound, music, characterisation, etc.
